Power: Jumbled Wires and Old Transmitters

Keeping in mind the dire extent of load shedding, we had focused our survey questions on the frequency of power outages outside load shedding hours. But we assume that all respondents had the burden of load shedding in mind when they were ranking the services. The infographic below presents respondent’s perception of the reasons behind unscheduled power outage. Interestingly, most people gave technical reasons such as the poor maintenance of poles and wires, followed by wires getting shot.

Chandra Shamsher’s Transmitter
One of our responded in the survey told us that the frequent power outage outside load shedding is due to out-dated transmitter calling it, ‘Chandra Shamshere’s transmitter”. The reason for such anecdote is that Chandra Shamsher was pioneer in bringing electricity in Nepal and this man refers that the older transmitter is almost of no use and cause the power cut in their locality. Even if they fix the transmitter, it can’t function well until it gets replaced.
